Editorial policy

Sources and methodology

A preserved URL is not treated as preserved truth. Every replacement page is newly written, dated and linked to the best available primary evidence.

Last reviewed 29 August 2026

Source order

  1. Legislation, courts and official government guidance.
  2. Road authorities, police and programme documentation.
  3. Original research and technical standards.
  4. Responsible secondary reporting when it adds necessary context.

Time-sensitive claims

Penalties, product availability, programme rules and store details can change. We show a review date on guide pages and avoid unverified ratings or download totals. Readers should confirm current official material before acting.

Historical material

The Internet Archive and old links can identify what a URL used to concern, but archived wording is not copied as new editorial content. Claims are re-evaluated, old ownership is disclosed and unsupported figures are labelled rather than revived.

News feed

UK and US news lists validate a defined set of fields, reject unsafe image URLs, order items by date and cache successful results for 15 minutes. Remote requests have a five-second limit. If a feed is unavailable or invalid, the site serves a local snapshot. Full articles remain on SocialsMap.

Images

We use first-party app imagery, official media with compatible terms, or properly licensed work. The previous site's photo files have not been copied merely because their URLs were archived.

Corrections

Material errors will be corrected with a new review date. Send enough detail to identify the page, statement and primary source through the contact page.
